With the latest version of Shapr3D (2.0.6) we have added several new features. In order to try these out, make sure to update your app in the App Store.
Which version do I use?
Now you can check in the app which version you are using. The latest release is Shapr3D 2.0.6 (was published on Jan 27
In the app, tap in the bottom right corner / About and you’ll see the App Version displayed for every new release.
If you don’t see this in the app, you are using an older version of Shapr3D.
New features overview
All the features listed here are only available in the latest version of Shapr3D (v 2.0.6).
To have the most up-to-date one installed on your iPad PRO, go to the App Store and update if necessary.
The new features include:
Sketching and constraints
- Tangent constraint
- Symmetry constraint
- Distance (absolute, horizontal, vertical)
Read on to learn more about these new features.
With the Trim tool you can get rid of unwanted lines and edges.
To enable the Trim tool:
- Enter the “Edit sketches” mode by selecting a sketch.
- Select the Trim tool.
- Use the Pencil to cut off any unwanted lines.
- Tap “OK” when you are done.
With the tangent constraint you can make items tangent to each other.
You can use the following ones:
- line and line tangent
- line and arc tangent
- line and circle tangent
- circle and circle tangent
- arc and arc tangent
- arc and circle tangent
You can set symmetry between points, lines, arcs and circles.
To enable the Symmetry tool:
- select two similar sketch items (two lines or two circles for example) and
- tap on the “Symmetry” icon.
- Select a line for the axis of the symmetry.
- It will automatically set the symmetry.
To delete the symmetry:
- Tap on the small symmetry ribbon
- And use the “X” above it
Using the lock icon you can set points, lines, arcs or circles to remain in the same position when you edit your sketches.
With the disjoint function, you can separate multiple points on the canvas that are joined together.
We added an extra options for point-point constraints.
Beside the default absolute distance you can now set a distance constraint that is only applied to the horizontal or vertical direction.
New extrude commands
From now on you can fuse, subtract and intersect solids when you extrude in the app.
All you need to do is:
- make an extrusion
- tap on the label of the extrusion
- select Fuse / Subtract / Intersect / New
- Tap “OK”
- The requested action will be displayed
- Tap anywhere to finalize the command
With the Fuse function you can combine (union) multiple solids together.
In this case we created a 10.4 mm tall cuboid between the cube (left) and the cylinder (right).
With the Subtract function, you can create a 3D solid by subtracting existing 3D solids from another, if they have an overlap.
In this case below, we will subtract the red cuboid from the cylinder.
With the Intersect function, you are able to create a 3D solid from the common volume of two or more existing 3D solids.
In this case, the common part is represented with grey solid inside the cylinder. The part highlighted with yellow will be deleted as it had no overlapping part with the 10.4 mm cuboid.
Update the app to 2.0.6
If you want to try out the new features, make sure to update the app in the App Store:
