Q&A with Attila Kozma aka Kozmo, Senior Analytics Engineer
What initially attracted you to Shapr3D?
It was December 2020 when I first read about Shapr3D in Forbes. I’m a regular Forbes reader and Shapr caught my attention. I was already familiar with Hungarian economics and success stories, and I was intrigued by the insights István shared in the article. He spoke about working at large corporations and the restrictions they bring - it resonated deeply with my mindset at the time.
After reading the article, I went online to learn more about Shapr3D. The mission and the work they were doing were incredibly inspiring, so I decided to check out the Careers page and applied for an open role. Another factor that attracted me was the opportunity to join a larger data team and work on cutting-edge technology, something I had always wanted to experience.
What excites you most about working on Shapr3D’s product?
One of the most exciting things is seeing how our contributions directly impact the product and our metrics. It’s incredibly rewarding to collaborate with stakeholders, help them do a better job, and then see those changes manifest in the application.
What are the biggest challenges in your role?
The complexity of our data models is one of the biggest challenges. With numerous data sources, metrics, calculations, and projects to manage, the system can be overwhelming. But it’s also uniquely rewarding. Solving these massive problems and seeing the tangible outcomes is what makes the work exciting.
How has your role evolved since you started at Shapr3D?
My role has always been a blend of analyst and engineer. Over time, I’ve delved deeply into both aspects, switching between them to tackle infrastructure and problem-solving from all angles.
What’s been incredible is the freedom to explore areas I’m passionate about. If I find something interesting, I can dig into it and develop expertise. My responsibilities have grown, I now own entire pieces of the system and can confidently teach others or provide guidance.
How would you describe work-life balance at Shapr3D?
My perspective on work-life balance has completely changed since joining Shapr3D. It’s not about working a strict 9-to-5 schedule anymore. Instead, I have the freedom to work when it suits me.
For example, if I start early, I can finish early, or if I need a late start, I can work into the evening. I’ll never forget one rainy day when a colleague and I were solving an exciting problem. He adjusted his schedule so we could align and fix it together, it’s that kind of collaboration and passion for problem solving that stands out here.
What has surprised you most about working here?
Moving to Shapr was one of the best career decisions I’ve ever made. Transitioning from a corporate structure to a smaller startup has been incredibly rewarding.
Here, there’s no bureaucracy or office politics to navigate. Instead, I’ve been exposed to complex problems, amazing technology, and brilliant colleagues. It’s easy to grow, evolve, and genuinely enjoy the work. My advice? If you’re hesitating on joining a small company, I say go for it!
What’s something you’ve learned recently that really stuck with you?
You have the power to consciously shape your experience. I realized that I had been applying this only in situations where I felt comfortable doing so, but it can actually be applied to any situation.
